What is your primary role in the Digital Tattoo project?
I manage our social media, write articles, and do the odd book review. I aim to find interesting angles to write about contemporary questions regarding digital identity and digital safety.
When did you start working with the Digital Tattoo team?
I joined the Digital Tattoo team in January 2019.
How did you get involved in Digital Tattoo?
I was connected with Digital Tattoo by Kathleen Scheaffer, one of the Digital Tattoo co-leads and Outreach and Instructional Services librarian at the Inforum Library at the University of Toronto, where I also work. I was interested in getting involved in order to contribute in a concrete way to what I believe is a very important discussion: the impact of the Internet on humanity.
Why do you believe Digital Tattoo is an important initiative?
In so many ways, technology and the Internet are indispensable. They have made our lives easier and more efficient. However, by the same token it is becoming more and more difficult to discern exactly how much control technology exercises over our lives. The importance of Digital Tattoo lies in how it approaches that line between functionality and control: it doesn’t ask that we shy away from technology, but that we be mindful of it instead.
What do you hope that readers will get out of Digital Tattoo?
I hope that Digital Tattoo readers are equipped to critically engage with technology and the Internet, and that they will find through the Digital Tattoo a whole arsenal of techniques to support that critical engagement.
If you could hand craft your dream job, what would it be?
I would love to work in fundraising and development in a museum or other cultural heritage institute. I am very passionate about facilitating conversation and working collaboratively with communities and stakeholders to help these institutions achieve their goals.
What is your favourite way to relax?
I love to curl up with Netlflix or a good book for a few hours when things get stressful.
Do you have any pets?
I have two cats; Felix and Fritz. Felix is younger and very silly, whereas Fritz is an older gentleman. They make my day every day. I also have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Sophie, who is a bundle of furry joy.
